Day 6 Trilogy Whale Watch, Blowhole, Boogie Boarding & our first Maui Cookout

Day 6; we are totally feeling at home as you can see in these first two pics, we are up early so we won't be late for our Trilogy Whale Watch today at 8:00 AM.
(notice my delicious mangoes on the lanai? ...they were so good!)

Here we are waiting at the dock to head out.

It was a beautiful morning and we couldn't wait to get out on the water!

We started seeing whales right off the bat, it was so cool to see them up so close and personal!
(..just a reminder, we ARE editing the number of photos but there are a lot as these are our memories)

This first run of photos are all taken within 3 minutes, I am so glad we bought this new camera, the continuous photo did just as well as I hoped for whale watching! (this includes 50 photos, we liked keeping the breach shots in from the beginning through the splash)

It didn't take them long to start showing off their tails.

Couldn't figure out which way to look, these all happened so fast, saw these blowing but had to turn quick to the others we were watching because they got so active so quick.

Below is the first full breach we could catch on camera followed up by a mother and baby partially breaching. (Correction: thanks to a TripAdvisor pal "almostgrownup", the Mother and calf photos are NOT a partial breach but rather "chin-slaps".) I love all there is to learn about whales, they are so fun to watch and so very interesting!

Baby didn't quite make it out of the water as far as mamma.

These rafts and a few boats were getting a pretty good show as well.
This makes me think we might try a raft trip sometime.

This next round of pictures is about 40 minutes later, we saw this whale showing off with the amazing views of Maui for a backdrop and I was excited he hung out for lots of beautiful pictures!

B. had the aim and shoot and caught a few nice pics as well, including this "young" lady taking pictures and appearing to have a fabulous time.

I love that he got this awesome picture below that I missed! And with the little camera I was still able to pull it in a bit, nice job B.!

We loved this crew, there were more that aren't in the pic, one of the Coon's was along and is not pictured here. They said I should post pics on facebook so I had to get a pic because I knew I would never remember all their names. Our Captain is the one in the middle.
They were all very informative and hospitable and we had a great time!

We walked around after getting back to Lahaina and  found Sunrise Cafe Maui, they had 5.95 breakfast specials and it was pretty good. I would go back here for sure, maybe to try some lunch next time. If you plan  to stop here please note that they are cash only; I had to go to an ATM quick.

B. trying his hand at selfies, we walked around a bit by the water after eating and before heading North.

Next Stop Honolua Bay, we doubted the water was good for snorkeling but decided to stop and see how it looked and what folks were saying.

I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing the chickens on Maui, they are so pretty and I have never been anywhere else with chickens roaming wild. I love hearing the roosters in the jungle... :)

Talked to some people who said the snorkeling was bad but we sure enjoyed watching the surfers, the waves were pretty big and their were a lot of them outing there.

We spotted this turtle but the water was to dirty to get a good picture.

I just love walking back into the bay, the whole walk is so pretty, lots of great trees and plants!
It was clear the rain had been bad for several days previous to this.

It was a heck of a muddy walk but we were glad we had went back and really enjoyed the time here.

I love the philodendrons growing on the ground behind B. and climbing up the tree.  Saw all kinds of "house plants" growing wild on Maui, so amazing!

...last chicken pic, I promise. ;)

We left Honolua Bay and  headed for The Blowhole next.

...from up here it looks like a loooonnnnggg ways down, I was not sure what I was going to do but once we were there I did not want to miss out on anything so we headed down.

...don't worry, we were not too close. :)
As a matter of fact; I got on a guys case for going to close and scaring his wife!

It was so much fun climbing around down here, we were like little kids, as usual. :)

I love how you find something like this on Maui and somehow feel like YOU have discovered it... it was so cool and I had to go get B. so we could take pictures here.

The waves were amazing, we watched them for a long time, you just keep waiting for that perfect wave for that perfect picture, looking at them now I pretty much think they are all perfect. :)

After the climb back up, we left the Blowhole and headed to find a beach for body boarding; we were on a role today and we just kept going. We stopped at Slaughterhouse Beach and did not walk down because we thought the waves really looked to big there and decided to head for DT Flemming, it was packed in the parking lot but plenty of room to set up on the beach and there tons of people boogie boarding.
We watched for a while and decided to go for it, neither of us had ever done it before. We had a blast, it was a lot of work getting out past the waves and we both go caught and pulled under a couple times but we also both got a couple really good rides and a lot of mediocre rides.
We stayed in the water until there was no way we could handle it anymore, we had a big day and we were starting to get REALLY worn out.

We unpacked our lunch and ate here, We don't have any boogie boarding pics because we were both out there but we do have some pics of our feathered friend enjoying lunch with us.

We were so exhausted and it felt great; we were so beat up we never headed back out in the water, we vegged out on the beach quite a while before packing up and heading "home".

We stopped at Times Market and got stuff for a cookout; we got burger & buns, a sweet Ewa onion, potato and pasta salad. We decided we would cut up one of our mangoes to go with it.

After unloading groceries we sat in the hot tub before the sunset because everything we had hurt after the day of climbing and boogie boarding and we needed to rejuvenate.  We could cook out after the sunset and by that time we knew we would be good and hungry.

B. grills 12 months out of the year here in Wisconsin so this really made me feel at home, him too.
We first thought we wouldn't want to mess with cooking here but it felt great to cook our own dinner. I think the aloha in the air made everything taste even better.

Well if you hung in until the end I am impressed; this really was a busy day and I know now why I was so sore at the end of it.
We actually sat in the hot tub again after dinner and by the next day we were able to move again.
I can't think of anything better than playing like kids on Maui all day.
~Aloha!
...and thanks for coming along with us. :)
