Day 9 Snorkeling Honolua Bay. The Rainbow That Jumped Over the Moon! Fun in Lahaina!

...day 9, today the sadness tried to creep in but I was able to throw it off course; I refuse to think about going home one minute sooner than necessary.
Poor B. asked me on the way to Honolua Bay what time we had to check out on Friday.... my whole mind and soul came to a screeching halt for just a moment...
I said "we really can't talk about that yet" and that  was that, devastation averted!

We finally got to snorkel at Honolua Bay, it was so amazing we were in awe! We headed out on the right side of the Bay toward the clearer water in hopes of seeing lots of fish and really hoping to see Sea Turtles!!!
We were not out very far when we started seeing fish and lots of them! I even spotted an octopus and could hardly believe my eyes! ....this was thanks to a fellow Maui Freak on TA who showed enough pictures of these amazing creatures that I was able to find one.  I got B.'s attention and with much pointing he figured out what I saw and he was equally excited and also surprised that I spotted it.
Thanks Jennifer!

Then the highlight of our snorkeling happened, all of a sudden there was a turtle floating right along in front of me, I had imagined this but it was way cooler than I imagined. I was floating along by this turtle in the middle of the bay in the middle of nowhere it seemed and I don't know if anything has ever felt that peaceful to me before....   Then, what?!... this guy sees it and starts yelling "turtle! turtle! Eyes on turtle! so then all his group come over and this girl is chasing it with her camera and it heads off to the bottom. I was so bummed and I don't know much about snorkeling at all but I didn't think yelling and chasing were things you should do.

But then they left and now there were two turtles, we floated along with them for what seemed like forever to me  and it was so cool to share this together, I could have floated with them forever, but eventually they went on their way. I will never forget seeing that first turtle.

A note about snorkeling here; the coral is amazingly beautiful and you just want to keep following along and looking at more and more fish; but watch out! I found myself hardly able to swim and was pretty much staying in one place, I turned around to see if B. was still right there and he was motioning to turn around. Turned out I had gotten pretty far out and he was getting worried, he stayed with me to get my attention and turn me around.

These pictures are not very clear at all, they were taken with my little point and shoot; but it was so cool watching the surfers out here that I had to share the pics to relay the fun we had.
:)

Our "Survival Food"... we NEVER buy these at home but somehow we kept grabbing a can and they got us through any day we were too busy to slow down and eat, go figure, all the way to Maui to eat Pringles. They had become enough of our trip that I decided they deserved to get in the lime light for a moment.

This is up above Honolua Bay, there were so many more surfers out there than we realized when we were down there!

I hope this video works, it was so fun watching them surf and there is a nice long ride in this video and if the sound is turned up you can hear hooting and hollering from way out there!

On the way back from Honolua Bay we stopped in Napili, parked along the road and found a spot to try some more snorkeling, not sure the name of the beach, we kept seeing a Sea Turtle out there and I would try to swim out and watch him and he would disappear... over and over. He won!

Figured I would add a few snorkling pics, who doesn't look fabulous in their snorkeling gear? ;)

...more sadness, this time from B. We realized on our way back from Napili that we would not have anymore time to snorkel. Tomorrow we are going on the Road to Hana and we rented our gear until tomorrow afternoon. :(
We stopped to drop it off at Snorkel Bob's and when we parked the car B. says "this is really sad"     ... It was hard to even carry our stuff back in after that, we were both really bummed now.

We met my Brother and my Friend/SIL again for a BBQ.
All of a sudden my brother is like "Hey, it's the Rainbow that Jumped over the Moon!" :)
It was so cool and a few days after I got home I read that people saw another one like it.
Way Cool... WAY Cool!

After dinner me and Lisa decided to go into Lahaina shopping, we ended up having a really fun adventure!

We had just parked and stopped in one shop and we got stopped by this artist on the street.
He asked if we would be his models for the night and said he would give us the pictures for free...
...not sure if I should have shared that part, but I tell you, it would be worth buying, we loved doing this, we had a blast getting to know this man while all the while listening to music from up above at Fleetwoods.

His name is Gary Savage and this is his spot, right below Fleetwoods in front of their kiosk.
I will insert  a picture of his info.

We learned he has been surfing since he was 6 and the funny thing is that he had been surfing at Honolua Bay that day and may have been one of the guys B. and I were watching. :)

My turn; it was way different being on this side of the canvas. People are walking by the whole time and ooing and ahing over his work and you are going crazy waiting to see.

The best part was we looked just like us only way younger; Lisa thought she looked like when she was 12 and I think it looks just like when I was 17.
My favorite was how cool he does all the hilights in your hair.
I don't have a finished picture of mine but maybe I will share it when we get it framed, I don't want to unroll it and mess it up.

By the time we were done it was almost 9:30 and we had not bought a thing, cheapest shopping trip every on our wallets!
We stopped at Long's Drug on the way "home" because I needed to get a few goodies to bring home.
I got whole bean Kona and Maui coffee both ON SALE here!
Also the Hawaiian Host Chocolate Covered Macadamias were on Sale, the 6 pack case for 14.99, that was pretty great, I brought them all home to share. :)

When we got back we pulled up to valet and they were closed for the night, it was 11:00 and neither of us ever stays out late. We really had a GREAT time!

B. was watching T.V. when I got back in and had to listen to me ramble and tell him all the fun we had and tell him everything I learned about Gary Savage, I felt like I knew more about him than myself by the time I got done rambling, he really keeps you captivated while he draws!

Off to bed, RTH in the morning!
~
(ps... one fun little tid-bit, while I was having my drawing done I suddenly heard Steven Tyler singing! Somehow being on Maui, I did not freak out, I just sat there and listened and though, wow, just wow.)

Day 8 Black Rock, Olivine Pools, Family!

Day 8, woke up to whales jumping out in the water again.... I think I could used to this.

We decided it was the day to try snorkeling at Black Rock; we drove down to Whaler's Village and parked there. We had heard you could go in and buy a minimal purchase of like a bottle of water at the ABC Store and get your parking validated, turns out you have to spend a minimum of 15.00 now. It was all good, we bought 15.00 worth of items we planned on buying anyway so it was still free parking. We parked at 9:30 and had free parking until 12:30.

...again, no underwater camera so no snorkeling pictures; this is us after snorkeling for about an hour, maybe longer. (I never know what time it is on Maui)

The snorkeling was pretty cool, we saw a lot of fish and felt like we were really getting the breathing down good. We felt pretty sad because now that we are getting the hang of it and the water has cleared up more we are already on Day 8 of 11. :(

I couldn't go the whole Trip Report and never share my pedicure!
It was my first nail art and could not believe it held up to all the time we played in the sand and water, they actually still look great after being home almost 2 weeks.

We went back home and packed up some food, I have been very anxious to get to the Olivine Pools and we were finally going! From the first look when we climbed down to the bottom the views took my breath away.

....I knew I HAD to jump in, I didn't waste anytime either, I was ready to jump into this amazing pool! This place looks like Heaven!

FUN!!!!!

Floating around in this pool was a GREAT moment in time, I just melted there.
I felt like I could float around in there forever!

B. took a little more coaxing, I think I jumped in 3 times and finally talked him into trying it. :)

This is the kind of fun that has caused us to re-book already. :)

So I don't have a lot to write about today; we loved it here so much and I am sharing all the amazing views with you; pictures speak louder than words.

Be careful down here! This is a blowhole, it was doing nothing at all and a woman was standing over there when it was getting later and as waves crashed up from one side the blow hole came up and she was suddenly running scared to get out of there. (I am no expert, so if it is not actually a blow hole I am sorry but I am still saying to please be careful!

Does anyone know what this creature is? It was so cool, I think it looks like it's made from Silly String. We  would love to know what it is!

Simply an amazing place on earth...
We headed back and had to go get some goodies for dinner, My Brother and his family showed up today and we had not seen them yet; they were grocery shopping and then we were all going to cookout together. :)

I want to write something about this but what can you say????

Yay! This is my Sister-in-law but first she is my friend!
She is the one that brought me to Maui 2 years ago and now here I am with B.
I will always be so thankful that she shared this amazing place with me!! :)
And now here she is with my brother and we are all cooking out by the ocean... really?
Life is so full of surprises.

B. and my big brother cooking out some steaks, fish and shrimp. :)
We had a fabulous supper, I had my first Mai-Mai and it was soooo good! I am a lover of simple white fish like cod and this was right up my alley!

Thanks for joining me for another day's journey on Maui. :)
